Near the gardens of the Taj Mahal is an important 16th-century Mughal monument known as the Red Fort of Agra. This majestic red sandstone fortress encloses, within 2.5 kilometers of enclosing walls, the royal city of the Mughal rulers. It includes many fairy palaces, such as Jahangir Palace and Khas Mahal, built by Shah Jahan; audience rooms, such as Diwan-i-Khas; and two very beautiful mosques.
