This sacred Buddhist site, commonly known as the city of Senkadagalapura, was the last capital of the Sinhalese kings whose patronage helped the Dinahala culture flourish for more than 2,500 years until the British occupation. Sri Lanka in 1815. This is also the site of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, which is a popular pilgrimage site.
