Genes determine height but are not the sole determining factor in a child’s height in the future. Some studies have been conducted, yielding quite surprising results. We can estimate a child’s height based on the height of their parents.

For boys: Height = ((Mother’s height + 5.91 inches) + Father’s height) / 2

For girls: Height = ((Father’s height – 5.91 inches) + Mother’s height) / 2

Additionally, the child’s height at the age of 2 is also a hint for parents to estimate the child’s adult height using the formula: Height at age 2 x 2.

Even after giving birth, they continue to be attentive by purchasing nutritious food, often at high prices, for their child. Despite these efforts, their children still end up being short.

Upon further research, I have identified some serious mistakes made by parents that contribute to slow growth in children’s height:

  • Feeding their child specific foods that they believe are good for their health.
  • Limiting their child’s physical activity and being overly protective.
  • Enforcing late-night study sessions and early wake-up times before going to school.
  • Preparing breakfast for their child in a careless manner, simply giving them money and telling them to eat breakfast without knowing if the child actually uses the money for breakfast or for something else.
  • Allowing excessive use of phones and computers without regulating their child’s sleep schedule.
  • Regularly giving children carbonated drinks, coffee, and bottled fruit juices.

I have read numerous sources and learned that all of the above actions are highly discouraged. Not only do they result in nutritional deficiencies, but they also increase the risk of obesity due to lack of physical activity. Furthermore, they have a negative impact on the growth hormone secretion process, which is a decisive factor in human height.

How to help your child grow tall and healthy

As parents, seeing our children grow tall and healthy is an immense source of happiness and pride. Therefore, I believe that we should invest our efforts, time, and, of course, money in a scientific manner to create the best conditions for optimal height development.

It is essential to increase the intake of calcium-rich foods in your child’s daily diet, such as seafood, broccoli, milk, various legumes, yogurt, eggs, etc., to provide sufficient calcium for the development of the skeletal system. Additionally, it is important to diversify the types of food to ensure the best nutrition for your child’s overall health and growth.

Furthermore, you should adopt a scientific eating regimen to control appropriate weight because being excessively overweight can exert pressure on your skeletal frame and hinder rapid height development. Conversely, if you are excessively underweight, it may indicate a nutritional deficiency, and you will need to improve your eating habits to achieve effective height growth.

Enhancing regular physical activity

It’s important not to overly shelter your child, as this not only makes them shy and limits their communication skills, but it can also hinder height development. At least 1 hour per day, your child should engage in sports and physical activities that promote height growth, such as swimming, cycling, jumping rope, running, etc. These activities help maintain flexible and strong bones and joints, as well as stimulate the secretion of growth hormones.

Engaging in exercise not only benefits height development but also stimulates the development of muscles and bones, improves bone length and density, and enhances digestive and respiratory conditions in children.

In fact, it is easy to observe that children who regularly engage in physical activity have “expanded” and stronger skeletal frames and show better overall development compared to those who are less active.

While exercise is beneficial for development, it doesn’t mean that all sports yield the same results. It is particularly important to avoid pushing your child beyond their limits. Limit growth-inhibiting factors

In addition to applying methods to improve your child’s height, it’s important to limit their exposure to growth-inhibiting substances. Keep them away from stimulants such as alcohol, beer, tobacco, and coffee to prevent adverse effects on their health and avoid premature ossification of their bones. This will contribute to rapid and effective height growth in your child.

Maintain good posture

Subconsciously, people often adopt incorrect postures such as walking with a hunched back or sitting in a slouched position. This can hinder bone development and affect the growth and height development process. Therefore, you need to consciously practice good posture whether you are standing, walking, or sitting.
